Audi B5 RS4 pump swap

Another non-production part that I wanted to transfer from the Santorin car over to the Silver car was the Audi B5 RS4 fuel pump.  I’d acquired this when I had the APR Stage 3 K04 kit on the Santorin car and after removing most of that kit I had left the fuel pump in place because it was such a huge hassle to try and remove it.

As a back up I began trying various other tools like wrenches and some hose removal tools.  Eventually I was able to get the pump loose, but it was over an hours worth of time spent struggling to get the pump loose.  Taking the stock S4 fuel pump out of the Silver car was slightly quicker because I had an idea of what tool setup would work, but it was still a pain to do.  If I have to do this job in the future I’ll make the investment in the proper tool.

Subframe swap complete

Got the subframes back where they belong.  The one going in the Santorin car took a bit longer because I’m working on stripping off all the reasonably usable parts and so I pulled the rear brake calipers off.

Instal part one

I’d also noticed on the top of each subframe near the rear bushings the top part of the subframe’s had a small rust spot developing.  This was common to both cars so I assume there is some rubbing that naturally takes place at that spot and allows the rust to form.  I cleaned the spots up and then applied some rust-oleum paint to try and prevent and more corrosion taking place.

Install part two

My first thought was to try and mount the subframe leaving the coilovers in place, but that turned out to complicate the process so I yanked the coilovers out and then put the subframe in place.

Subframe final phase

I shifted around the two subframes today getting them into their respective positions for re-installing on the new cars.  It was a bit of work getting the two moved since at this point floor space in the garage is at a premium.  With both cars in the garage and the motor out of the one along with all of the other parts there isn’t a whole lot of room to be dragging around something as large as the subframe and axles.

Silver subframe going to Santorin

I still need to swing the Silver cars subframe around so I can mount it onto the Santorin car.

I also pulled a couple of the plates off the underside of the Santorin car to swap onto the Silver car.  There was a little bit of rust forming on the Silver cars plates in the area of the fuel tank and since it was easy enough to get to right now I decided I’d swap them.
