Upgrade Work

2.7T Triple Play

I’m beginning to take the engine out of the Avant as the first phase of a three engine rotation, the engine from my Silver S4 will be going into the Avant, the spare engine I have from the Nogaro that I parted over the summer will be going into the Silver car, and the Avant’s engine will be sold.

Progress will only get so far before I have to pause and wait on some more tools to arrive.  The passenger side axle bolt was apparently over-torqued, and my 1/2″ drive extension snapped trying to loosen the bolt.  I’ve got an order in for some 3/4″ drive tools to go at it again.

Turbo Concepts First Drive

I got the engine back in and spent several hours hooking things back up again.  I was happy not to have any immediate leaks upon starting the car.

I took it out for a drive to check how the wastegate settings were taking.  This was about what I was expecting, based on my efforts to set the preload I figured around 12-13 psi would be where it steadied out at.

Unfortunately on the way back I smelled gasoline and thought one of the injector O-rings was leaking, that appears to be the case, so I’ll need to look into correcting that problem before I can hook the N75 back up and take a log with a more appropriate boost profile.

Turbo Concepts Passenger Side

Today I finished installing the passenger side Turbo Concepts turbocharger.

A change from the last install, I’m using T-bolt clamps on the hoses at the compressor outlet.  I had one of the worm gear clamps slide off this coupler with my last setup and it took several hours to get the clamp back on – trying to avoid a repeat of that situation.
