Second K04 installed

This afternoon I swapped the passenger side exhaust manifold and turbocharger.

I also received a pair of the Aquamist 0.7 mm water-methanol nozzles with check valves.  These will be used in place of the 1 mm nozzles that I had on with the K03’s as the pump duty cycle needed to be set on the low side in order to keep the volume of water being injected at an appropriate level.

By using the 0.7 mm nozzles I’m hoping to run the system at a higher pressure with the K04’s while still keeping the volume of fluid low enough to just get the job done.

Driver side K04 on

It takes a good bit longer to install a turbocharger than you’d at first think.

I set up to check out the preload on the wasetgate actuators to ensure they are balanced and set to an appropriate level for the K04’s.

I use the air compressor in conjunction with the regulator for a leak down tester to gradually apply air pressure to the wastegate canisters.  It also allows me to get a fairly accurate reading of the air pressure necessary to start opening the wastegates.  The BorgWarner K04 canisters are loaded to open at approximately 7 psi.

Here they are in motion:

Turbo swap underway

Completed the removal of the motor, 7 hours total doing it solo, and took the driver side turbocharger off.  The K04 is just about ready to be installed.

While the motor is out I’m also swapping exhaust manifolds, going to a set of Swaintech white lightning ceramic coated stock manifolds.
