You may have noticed in the lower right corner of your screen a small box that says “Poll”. I am in the process of deliberating over what turbocharger pair to install next on my S4. I have put some of my thoughts in these pages, but I was interested in learning what visitors to this site would seek in an aftermarket turbocharger if faced with some of the limitations I am.
Update:
I’m moving the poll to this post so that I can expand the use of the polling feature.
This dyno shows the TTE550 turbo’s on a B5 RS4 versus baseline data on the same RS4 with the RS4 K04 turbo’s.
TTE550 vs Stock RS4 Turbo’s
I find these results very encouraging as I look for a turbo that is similar to K04’s in low end torque and able to take full advantage of the stock S4 motor limits.
The scaling and units make interpreting the chart a bit challenging for me being accustomed to U.S. units at the wheels, but the curves showing similar low end response and significant delta that the 550’s put down over K04’s are unmistakable.
A few more months have passed and another option has popped up, this one from Project: B5 – a turbocharger called the PB550.
Project: B5 PB550 Turbocharger
Looking at this offering and comparing it to the Project: B5 RS6-X it is not immediately clear what distinguishes these two products. I have tried contacting Project: B5 to find out what the differences are but have not had any reply back to my inquiries. Looking at the two product write-ups it seems that the two differ in the following ways:
PB550 uses a K04 style billet compressor wheel.
RS6-X uses a double stack RS6 style compressor wheel.
The RS6-X has a clipped turbine, the PB550 does not.
At this point I have never seen any data on an RS6-X turbocharger or the PB550. Based on the specs they are still in the region I consider a candidate system, but the lack of data and lack of communication from Project: B5 make it unlikely I would purchase one of these.
